A delegation from the Sultanate of Oman recently embarked on a visit to Germany, igniting discussions and cooperation opportunities in the burgeoning field of green hydrogen.

Led by Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, Eng Salim Al Aufi, and Oman’s Ambassador to Germany, Maitha al Mahrouqi, the delegation engaged in high-level talks with key industry players in Leipzig and Bad Lauchstädt.

The primary goal of the Oman-Germany collaboration is to drive decarbonization efforts, particularly in industrial sectors, through the production and utilization of green hydrogen. Oman, endowed with abundant renewable energy resources, aims to position itself as a leading exporter of green hydrogen, while Germany seeks to meet its growing hydrogen demands through strategic partnerships with hydrogen-producing nations.

Discussions during the visit centered around the technical aspects of hydrogen production, storage, and transportation, including innovative solutions such as underground storage in salt caverns. Germany’s expertise in energy transition, coupled with Oman’s ambitious green hydrogen production plans, promises to unlock the full potential of this clean energy source.

The potential collaboration between Oman and Germany holds immense promise for driving a sustainable energy future. By leveraging Oman’s energy resources and Germany’s technological prowess, the partnership aims to accelerate the global transition towards clean energy and mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change.
