A landmark project in Oman’s energy landscape has been unveiled: the country’s biggest solar photovoltaic (PV) farm dedicated to a desalination plant.

Boosting Water Security and Sustainability:

This innovative project, a collaboration between Veolia and TotalEnergies, is a major stride forward in two key areas for Oman:

  • Water Security: Located near the Sur desalination plant, which serves over 600,000 residents, the solar farm directly contributes to Oman’s water security.
  • Clean Energy Future: By generating 32,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean electricity annually, the solar farm helps Oman achieve its National Energy Strategy’s goal of 30% renewable energy by 2030. Furthermore, it reduces CO2 emissions by an impressive 27,200 tons per year.

Paving the Way for a Sustainable Future:

This project aligns perfectly with Oman’s 2040 Vision, which emphasizes sustainable development. Veolia takes pride in being a pioneer in shaping Oman’s transition to a clean energy future. The inauguration ceremony was held under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency Eng. Salim Bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, who expressed strong support for the initiative.
