Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), a cornerstone of the Sultanate’s economy, has taken a significant stride towards sustainability by commissioning a solar photovoltaic (PV) project to power its internal airports. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to Oman’s broader renewable energy goals.

Located at Fahud, Marmul, and Qarn Alam, the solar PV installations collectively generate 1,227 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity annually, significantly reducing the airports’ reliance on traditional power sources and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 786 tonnes per year.

PDO’s decision to award the project to Green Universe Enterprise (GUE), a local SME, exemplifies the company’s dedication to supporting the growth of Oman’s renewable energy sector. This strategic move aligns with PDO’s In-Country Value (ICV) strategy, which aims to maximize the economic benefits of its operations for the Omani economy.

Green Universe Enterprise, led by renowned entrepreneur Sumaya Nasser al Rawahi, has emerged as a key player in Oman’s burgeoning solar PV market. The company’s expertise and innovative financing models have been instrumental in driving the adoption of clean energy solutions across various sectors.
