The Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) has taken a significant step towards becoming a leader in sustainable event hosting. They have signed an agreement with TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Middle East & Africa (DG MEA) to install a massive rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system.

This 4.6-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar project is expected to generate over 7,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy annually, effectively covering most of the OCEC’s electricity needs. This initiative, supported by OMRAN Group, positions OCEC as one of the leading eco-friendly venues in the region, allowing events to be powered by renewable solar energy.

TotalEnergies’ expertise in the field ensures the project meets the highest industry standards and delivers strong results for OCEC’s sustainability goals. This innovative step aligns with OCEC’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and supporting the government’s ambitious target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Eng. Said al Shanfari, commenting on the project, said:

“We are thrilled to collaborate with OMRAN and TotalEnergies Renewables DG MEA on this groundbreaking project. It empowers us to achieve our net-zero objectives and solidify our position as a leading green venue in the region. This initiative goes beyond just hosting events; it allows us to set a sustainable example for others. The project complements existing OCEC Green Team initiatives aimed at minimizing our environmental impact.”

Mohamed Tribak, Middle East and North Africa Zone Director at TotalEnergies Renewables DG MEA, added:

“This collaboration showcases TotalEnergies’ commitment to supporting valued partners in their energy transition journey. This milestone reinforces our pioneering role in developing sustainable energy solutions for businesses across Oman.”

The agreement signing ceremony was also attended by Dr. Hashil bin Obaid al Mahrouqi, CEO of OMRAN Group, and Sergio Giorgi, Country Chair TotalEnergies Oman.
