Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has released its 7-year statement (2023-2029), which outlines its plans for meeting the growing demand for electricity and water in Oman.

The statement forecasts that electricity demand in the Main Interconnected System will grow at an average rate of 2.2% per year, while water demand is expected to decline at an average rate of 2% per year. To meet this demand, OPWP plans to develop new power and water generation capacity, as well as invest in transmission and distribution infrastructure.

The statement also discusses OPWP’s plans for the Sharqiyah Zone, which is a rapidly developing region in Oman. OPWP plans to invest in new power and water generation capacity in the Sharqiyah Zone to meet the growing demand in the area.

The 7-year statement highlights OPWP’s commitment to achieving ambitious goals to diversify the sources of electricity generation, with new solar and wind projects projected to contribute almost 11% of electricity production by 2025. This represents a significant increase from the current level of renewable energy contribution, which is around 1%.

OPWP is also exploring the potential of other renewable energy sources, such as geothermal and waste-to-energy. These projects could help to further reduce Oman’s reliance on fossil fuels and contribute to the country’s climate change goals.

Overall, the 7-year statement outlines OPWP’s commitment to providing reliable and affordable electricity and water to the people of Oman, while also playing a leading role in the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
