Belgium’s DEME Concessions NV and Oman’s OQ Alternative Energy have inked a usufruct agreement with Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) and the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) regarding their planned green hydrogen project in the Duqm area, central Oman.

The two companies united in the Hyport Duqm consortium were among the winners in the first round of the green hydrogen tender in Oman. As a result, a project development agreement for the first phase of the initiative for the production of renewable hydrogen and ammonia was signed in June.

In the initial phase, DEME and the renewable energy arm of state-owned OQ plan to produce more than 50,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually in the Duqm free zone by 2029.

The plan for the Hyport Duqm project was first unveiled by DEME in March 2020.
