In a significant move toward sustainable practices, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) has undertaken a project to deploy 55 independent 10kW solar energy systems, meeting the power needs of agricultural farms in North Batinah.

Launched as part of the fourth edition of the Mustadeem program in collaboration with bp Oman and Nafath Renewable Energy, the initiative signifies the government’s dedication to food security and sustainable farming.

Targeting areas affected by Cyclone Shaheen, the solar-powered systems, primarily operating water pumps, contribute to energy self-sufficiency and resilience in the face of grid disruptions.

The program also includes training sessions for farmers and jobseekers, promoting solar energy usage for reduced costs and uninterrupted power supply.

This project aligns with Oman’s sustainability goals, projecting a reduction of 640 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions and supporting the country’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, reflecting a broader national effort to integrate sustainability into development plans.
