SolarWadi, in collaboration with the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech), has inked a groundbreaking agreement to establish a state-of-the-art 2.2MWp solar plant, marking GUtech as the first university in the Sultanate of Oman to be powered by renewable energy. The agreement was officially signed in the presence of HE Salim Al Aufi, Minister for Energy & Minerals, at the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman in Muscat.
This strategic partnership aims to create a cutting-edge solar facility that will generate over 3.8 million kWh of sustainable electricity annually. The solar plant’s operation is poised to significantly contribute to environmental conservation, avoiding 1,675 tons of CO2 emissions per year and a cumulative reduction of 41,878 tons of CO2 over 25 years.
“We at SolarWadi are thrilled to collaborate with GUtech in bringing this solar plant to life. This partnership underscores our joint commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions, emphasizing the pivotal role of academia in propelling sustainable initiatives forward,” commented a spokesperson from SolarWadi.
By embracing this renewable-powered initiative, GUtech reinforces its dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The solar plant will not only contribute to the university’s power needs but also serve as a valuable educational resource for GUtech students.
The signing ceremony marks the commencement of an innovative collaboration that aspires to establish new benchmarks in clean energy generation, fostering a more sustainable future for Oman and the wider region.
